Three Electric Providers in Carroll County
Carroll County is served by Georgia Power, Carroll EMC, and GreyStone Power, depending on where you live. Carroll EMC is a member-owned cooperative with its main office on North Highway 113 in Carrollton. Your bill tells you which one serves your home. It matters for any job that involves the meter or the service: each utility has its own process for disconnecting, reconnecting, and approving new service equipment, and we work with all three.
Meter Bases and Service Equipment
A meter base takes rain, sun, and the weight of the service cable for decades. Rust, a loose or damaged meter base, or melted jaws can cause flickering, partial power loss, or heat damage. Replacing one is a permitted job. The utility pulls the meter, we replace the base and the damaged conductors, the work is inspected, and then the utility reconnects. The photo below shows a new meter base we installed in Carrollton.

Carrollton Permits Are Picked Up in Person
Inside city limits, electrical permits come from the City of Carrollton Building and Codes Enforcement office at City Hall, 315 Bradley Street. The city requires electrical permits to be picked up in person by the holder of the state electrical license, which we handle as the licensed contractor. Homes outside the city limits go through Carroll County.
A College Town With Old and New Homes
Census estimates (2020 to 2024) show Carrollton’s homes split fairly evenly by age. About 37% were built before 1980, about 27% between 1980 and 1999, and about 36% in 2000 or later, with a median of 1989. Only about 41% of homes are owner-occupied, which is typical for a university town, and fewer than half are single-family detached houses.
Older homes near downtown tend to need panel capacity, grounded outlets, and GFCI protection. Rentals near campus get heavy use and frequent turnover, so worn receptacles, broken fixtures, and overloaded circuits are common. Newer subdivisions mostly call us about additions: EV chargers, generator connections, and outdoor lighting.

Carrollton Landmarks and Neighborhoods
Carrollton was incorporated as the Carroll County seat in 1829, and downtown is still laid out around Adamson Square, where Newnan, Alabama, Bradley and Rome streets meet. The brick storefronts around the square date from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Carrollton GreenBelt, a paved trail of more than 18 miles, connects neighborhoods, schools, parks and downtown.
Carrollton was also a textile town. The Mandeville Mills and Mill Village Historic District keeps the old mill buildings, now loft apartments, and blocks of mill houses on streets such as Burson, Aycock and Lovvorn and Avenues A through C. Around them are older neighborhoods near downtown and the university, and newer subdivisions on the edges of town.
What We See in Carrollton Homes
- Ungrounded outlets and cloth-insulated wiring in mill houses and older homes. See home rewiring and our historic home rewiring example.
- Small original panels that cannot take another circuit. See service upgrades.
- Kitchens, baths, laundry rooms and exteriors with no GFCI protection. See GFCI will not reset.
- Smoke alarms that are missing, expired or not interconnected. See smoke detector installation.
- Dated fixtures and dark rooms. See LED recessed lighting.
- Power loss after storms. See generator transfer switches.

Newer Subdivisions: Outdoor Living, EV Chargers and Backup Power
Homes in Carrollton’s newer subdivisions usually have sound wiring, so the calls are about adding things: deck and patio lighting like the job above, GFCI-protected outdoor outlets, flood lights, EV charger circuits and generator inlets with transfer switches. We do a load check before adding any large circuit.
Landlords and Small Businesses
With so many rentals near the university, we do a lot of turnover repairs: worn outlets, broken fixtures, dead GFCIs and smoke alarm updates. We also help Carrollton small businesses with lighting and repairs. See commercial electrical services.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I pull the electrical permit myself in Carrollton?
For work done by an electrical contractor, the city issues the permit to the licensed contractor, who picks it up in person. We take care of that.
Which utility serves my Carrollton home?
It could be Georgia Power, Carroll EMC, or GreyStone Power. Your bill shows which. We coordinate with whichever one serves your address.
Do you work for landlords near the university?
Yes. We do repairs and turnover work for rental owners and send a clear summary of what we found and fixed.
Can you rewire an older mill house in Carrollton?
Yes. We fish new wiring through attics, crawl spaces and wall cavities where we can, add grounded outlets and GFCI protection, and update the panel if needed. We explain where any wall openings will be before we start.
Can you add lighting and outlets to my deck or patio?
Yes. Outdoor outlets get GFCI protection and weather-resistant in-use covers, and we run the circuit in conduit or bury it at the proper depth. We pull a permit when one is required.
What does it mean when my smoke detector chirps?
A chirp can mean the battery, the detector, both, or a wiring issue. On hardwired detectors the battery is only a backup for power outages. If a new battery does not stop it, call us to check the detector and its wiring.
Are estimates free in Carrollton?
Yes. Estimates are free. Call (678) 552-9399 or text (470) 516-7261 to set one up.
